Child Sexual Assault – 2015 & After – Church Crime Information

Clearly what is presented here is a very, very small sampling of cases. Because sexual assault or sexual abuse can continue undetected for years, entries are sorted by the ‘year of last alleged illegal activity’ for that suspect. Recent years might appear to have fewer cases due to the typical delay in detecting the crime of sexual assault or sexual abuse. Generally speaking, the cases presented here are not the “credibly accused” cases we typically read about, but are rather actual alleged crimes marked by an arrest. “Credibly accused” cases can be found in the tab containing “scandals.”

Entries on these pages can contain arrests, charges, or indictments, which may eventually be reduced, dropped, or expunged, and as such, these actors may in fact be innocent in a court of law.

Child Sexual Assault

2020 – Valley Ranch Baptist Church, Coppell, TX. Jason Thomas (associate minister) arrested on allegations of “aggravated sexual assault of a child.” The female victim was under the age of 14. Coppell church pastor arrested for child sex assault.
2020 – St. Perpetua Catholic Church, Waterford, MI; St. Hugo of the Hills Parish, Bloomfield Hills; Sacred Heart Parish, Dearborn, MI. Joseph (Jack) Baker (pastor) arrested on charges of having sex with a minor. Waterford church pastor charged with sex crimes involving child.
2020 – Centro Familiar Cristiano Pnl Church, Anaheim, CA. Rolando Fuentes (pastor) was arrested on allegations of sexual assault of two minors and one adult, all female. The suspect was the founder of the church. Anaheim pastor arrested on suspicion of sexual assault; two victims were minors at the time, authorities say.
2020 – Several Unidentified churches, San Antonio, TX. Clayton Turner (youth pastor) was arrested on allegation child sexual assault of a 12-year old girl. BCSO: San Antonio youth pastor arrested, accused of child sex crimes.
2020 – Gulf Breeze Methodist Church, Gulf Breeze, FL. Ryan Scott Walsh (youth director) was arrested for alleged “lewd/lascivious” behavior on a 13-year old female. Specifically, the complaint outlined “’inappropriate touching, messaging, and photographs being exchanged’ between Walsh and the teen girl.” Church youth director arrested for sexual offenses involving teen girl.
2020 – Call To Life Apostolic Church, Monroe County, AL. Garyl Jermaine Gibbs (pastor) was arrested on charges of two counts sodomy. Monroeville pastor arrested, charged with sodomy.
2020 – Winnishiek Evangelical Free Church, Freeport; Cedarville Baptist Church, Cedarville, IL. John McIntosh (pastor) was arrested on charges of sexual abuse of a minor. Cedarville pastor charged with sexual abuse of a minor.
2019 – Hot Dogs for Hope, Jacksonville, FL. Mike Linkenauger (minister) was arrested on charges he allegedly admitted to having sex with a young boy and other sex charges. Hot Dogs for Hope minister arrested on sexual battery and lewd conduct charges.
2019 – New Beginnings Community Church, Jurupa Valley, CA. Sean Ortiz (lead pastor) was arrested for alleged sexual assault of an underaged female parishioner. Lead pastor of Jurupa Valley church arrested in sexual assault case.
2019 – Yorktown Church of the Nazarene, Yorktown, IN. Brian Couch (former pastor) was arrested on charges of alleged child molestation. He was charged with “20 counts of child molesting, a Level 4 felony, eight counts of child molesting, a Level 1 felony, and one count of rape, a Level 3 felony.” Former Yorktown pastor, school nurse arrested for alleged child sex crimes.
2019 – Mision Cristiana El Calvario Church, Sharonville, OH. Cesar Guerrero (pastor) allegedly claimed that a young female member of his congregation needed to be “cleansed from being molested as a child.” He was arrested for and charged with sexual battery, and according to police has confessed. Court docs: Pastor arrested on sex charges used bible scripture to ‘cleanse’ young victim during assault.
2019 – Mt. Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Aiken, SC. Lorenzo Renard Washington (pastor) arrested on charges of criminal sexual conduct with an underaged female. It is alleged he “touched the victim over her clothes and kissed her on the neck and mouth.” SC pastor arrested after alleged sex crime against teen, reports say.
2019 – Sixth Street Church of God, West Plains, MO. Randy Dale Brooks (pastor) arrested on charges of inappropriate touch and “sexual assault of a juvenile family member.” Charges included: “one count of first-degree sodomy or attempt, two counts of first-degree statutory rape or attempt involving a child younger than 14, two counts of first-degree child molestation and a count each of incest and first-degree endangering the welfare of a child creating a substantial risk/sexual.” The behaviors occurred over a period of two years. W.P. pastor arrested, charged with incest, statutory rape.
2019 – New Canaan Missionary Baptist Church, Harris County, TX. Paul Christopher Cain (pastor) was arrested on charges of sexual assault of a 13-year old girl. Texas Pastor Arrested, Accused Of Sexually Assaulting 13-Year-Old Girl.
2019 – Grace Baptist Church, Albuquerque, NM. Curtis Ray Brown (pastor) was arrested on charges he allegedly raped a 5-year old boy. The alleged assault happened during a sleep-over. Former Baptist pastor arrested in rape of 5-year-old boy.
2019 – North Belmont Church of God, Gaston County, NC. Nicholas Adam Martin (music and youth pastor) was arrested on charges of sexual assault of a 14-year old female. There are several alleged victims and allegedly one incident where the offender’s wife was supposedly present. More accusers come forward after Belmont preacher charged with child sex crimes.
2019 – Lighthouse Baptist Church, Florence, AL. John Thomas Martin (lead pastor) was arrested on charges of abusing young boys. He made a confession to his congregation of inappropriate behavior. The victims were from within his congregation. Florence pastor accused of sexually abusing boys.
2019 – Oceanlake Christian Church, Lincoln City, OR. Mitchell Houston Conte (pastor) arrested and charged for alleged sexual abuse of a minor, including: “two counts of contributing to the sexual delinquency of a minor, online sexual corruption of a child, luring a minor, sexual abuse and sodomy.” Lincoln City pastor arrested on charges of sex abuse of minor.
2019 – Columnas de Fuego Evangelical Church, Miami-Dade, FL. Yunior Beltres (evangelist/pastor) arrested on charges of “sexual battery on a minor.” The victims were age nine and 10 years of age. The victims alleged he “had raped them” in front of one another. South Florida pastor accused of raping two girls.
2019 – Oasis de Paz ministries, Las Vegas, NV. Bramwell Retana (pastor) arrested on charges of sexually abusing a young girl under age 14. The abuse allegedly occurred over a period of years. Charges included: Sexual Assault victim under 14; Lure Child with Computer to Engage in Sexual Act; Kidnap 1st degree sexually motivated; Lewdness with a minor under 14 (7 Counts); Child Abuse. UPDATE: More allegations of abuse against local pastor.
2019 – Hamilton Family Fun Center (The Lighthouse), Hamilton, OH. Dan Broxterman (pastor) was “indicted on 10 counts of rape and other sex crimes.” He is alleged to have allowed teens to sleep over on church grounds and engage in sex. One victim is allegedly 13 years old and another was only four. He had “served time for gross sexual imposition in 1990 and 1994.” He subsequently pleaded guilty to rape. Pastor charged with rape has prior convictions for sex crimes.
2019 – Valley Baptist Church, Perrydale, OR. James Allen Moore (pastor) charged with abusing a nine-year old girl. Man ‘actively involved’ at Marion-Polk Co. church accused of sex abuse involving young girl.
2019 – Westcoast Center for Human Development, Sarasota, FL. Henry Lee Porter Sr. (bishop) was charged with “sexual battery of a child.” His alleged victims were as young as 14 years old. Ten alleged victims were interviewed by police investigators. Most incidents occurred at church or related events. Sarasota preacher sexually abused children, young adults for more than four decades, police say.
2019 – Bellview Baptist Church, Westlake, LA. John Michael Ward (pastor) was arrested on charges of child rape. The child was only 10 years old when the abuse began. He was convicted of producing child pornography, however. Former Westlake pastor sentenced in federal court to 60 years in prison for sex crimes.
2019 – Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, Norman, OK. Matthew Hack (high priest) was charged with lewd acts to a child and oral sodomy of a six-year old. High priest of Norman church removed from position following child sex crime charges.
2019 – Hays Hills Baptist Church, Hays County, TX. Charles Sweet (former deacon) sentenced after pleading guilty to “two counts of indecency with a child by sexual contact.” He also “sexually abused a member of his family almost seven years ago” [2012]. Former Hays County deacon begins 10-year prison sentence for touching girls.
2019 – Fellowship of the Rockies church, Colorado Springs, CO. Stephen Michael Houlihan (youth pastor, pastor) was arrested on charges he sexually assaulted a minor. He is alleged to have confessed. Youth pastor at Colorado Springs church arrested on suspicion of sexual assault of a child.
2019 – Unidentified churches (affiliated with nearly a dozen churches), Millry, AL. Dalton Tate (pastor) was indicted by grand jury for sodomy, sexual abuse of a child, and enticing a child (young boy). ONLY ON NEWS 5: Pastor, former youth minister arrested on child sex charges.
2019 – Good Shepherd Church, Chicago, IL. Jeffery Parks (pastor) was arrested for sexually abusing two twin girls, both aged 12. The abuse occurred at his home where he tutored the victims. Chicago Pastor Arrested for Allegedly Sexually Abusing Twin Girls He Tutored at His Home.
2019 – Unidentified church, Antwan Diggs (pastor) was arrested on allegations he sexually abused a teenaged boy. He also “has two prior felony convictism…” It is alleged the encounter occurred at a motel and involved oral sex. Pastor and City of Buffalo Program Coordinator accused of sexually abusing teen boy.
2019 – La Luz Del Mundo, Flowery Branch, GA. Joaquin Garcia (pastor) arrested on allegations of “sex trafficking, child rape and child pornography.” Megachurch pastor arrested for sex trafficking.
2019 – Faith Baptist Church, Wildomar, CA. Malo Victor Monteiro (youth pastor) pleaded guilty to seven sex-related charges concerning three female juveniles. Former Wildomar pastor charged in sexual assault of child nearly 30 years ago.
2019 – Bread House South church, Lansing, MI. Victor Albert Trevino Jr. (pastor) charged with sexual assault of a minor, as young as 13 years. Youth pastor charged in two separate cases of sexually assaulting a minor.
2019 – Iglesia de Jesucristo church, New Bedford, MA. Elmer Perez (pastor) was arrested on charges of “rape, kidnapping, witness intimidation, indecent assault and battery, and threatening to commit a crime.” New Bedford pastor accused of sexual assault appears in court, maintains innocence.
2019 – Faith Baptist Church, Urbana, IL. Roger VanRaden (assistant pastor, youth pastor) was arrested on charges of sexually assaulting a teen parishioner. The alleged assaults which started at age 14 lasted for approximately four years. Champaign pastor charged with sex assault of teen.
2019 – Freedom Church of San Antonio, TX. Kevin Garcia (pastor) was arrested on charges he sexually assaulted a juvenile female relative as she slept. San Antonio pastor accused of sexually assaulting child.
2019 – Hard Rock Revival Church, Boise, ID. Also: Calvary Chapel Church and the Common Ground Riders Church. Bret Allen Welty (pastor) was charged with sexual assault of a female teenager from his church. The church was run out of his home. Boise pastor accused of sexually abusing 15-year-old girl.
2019 – Grace Bible Study, Taylor County, TX; Jeff Berry Band; Courage Management, Franklin, TN. Jeffrey Charles Berry (church musician manager) arrested on charges of being a fugitive from justice, and indecency with a child. Franklin-based Christian artist manager arrested in connection with Texas child sex crime case.
2019 – Mission Cristiana El Calvario Church, Sharonville, OH. Cesar Guerrero (pastor) arrested for sexual assault of 17-year old female. Authorities alleged he conned his victims telling them they had been sexually molested during childhood, but the solution included having the victim perform sexual acts. 2019 – Long Lake Church, Grand Traverse County, MI. Christopher Cox (pastor) arrested for sexual assault of two males by using a date rape drug. Grand Traverse Co. Pastor Facing Charges for Drug Crimes, Sexual Assault.
2019 – Jesus House of Believers Worship Center, Boone County, KY. Anthony L. Brooks (pastor) arrested and indicted for several counts of juvenile child abuse. Boone County Sheriff’s Office: NKY pastor indicted on charges of sexual abuse of juvenile.
2019 – House of Restoration Ministry, Sarasota, FL. Bicente Velasquez Morales (pastor) arrested for sexual assault of a female under 12-years old. Police allege he touch the girl inappropriately at least on three occasions. Sarasota pastor arrested on charges of sexual battery of a girl under the age of 12.
2019 – Cleveland Chapel Baptist Church, SC. Phillip Jerard Buckson (pastor) arrested for “criminal sexual conduct with a minor.” This is a second incident with the same victim. Initial contact began when victim was age 13 and she became pregnant twice. More charges for minister who got teen pregnant twice and she had abortions, SC cops say.

2018 – First Baptist Church, Venice, CA. Demetrius Allen (youth pastor) arrested “for sex crimes against young girls in his congregation and for possession of child pornography.” California Youth Pastor Arrested for Sex Crimes, More Victims Suspected.
2018 – New Providence Baptist Church, Wake County, NC. Jerry Lewis Friday (pastor) arrested for sexual assault of at least three children ages 13-17, some of which occurred on church property. Pastor Arrested For the Sexual Assault of 3 Minor Girls.
2018 – Westwood Baptist Church, Birmingham, AL. Christopher Cody Stutts (youth minister) arrested for sexual abuse of a child under age 12 that lasted over three years. He was fired following his arrest, pled guilty and was sentenced to prison. Birmingham youth pastor fired amid child sex abuse charges.
2018 – Unidentified church, Helena-West Helena, AR. Cory Mathews (preacher) was charged with “distributing, possessing, or viewing sexually explicit material involving a child.” Pastor arrested on child pornography charges in Helena-West Helena.
2018 – New Life Ministries Baptist Church, Wendover, UT. Josue Romero (pastor) was arrested for aggravated sexual abuse of a child. “The victim stated that Josue touched her while they were in class and he was sitting next to her.” Police: Wendover pastor sexually abused teen girl.
2018 – Detroit Christian Church, Detroit, MI. Jeffrey S. Krupinski (pastor) arrested for sexual abuse of a 14-year-old girl. Pike County pastor arrested on teen sex abuse charges.
2018 – Unidentified Church. Ishmael Amon Collins (minister) arrested for sex with a minor. PD: Mesa minister charged with having sex with a minor.
2018 – The Village Church, Summer Camp, Hurst, TX. Matthew Tonne (associate child’s minister) was arrested and charged with sexual molestation. Her Evangelical Megachurch Was Her World. Then Her Daughter Said She Was Molested by a Minister.
2018 – Fransisco Porras (pastor) arrested on charges of “four counts of second-degree sexual assault.” He met his alleged victims through the church, which is new and does not meet at any one regular place. Police indicate they found physical evidence in at least one of the assaults. Arkansas Police: Part-time pastor arrested on charge of sexually abusing children.
2018 – Unidentified church. Self-proclaimed preacher. David Ray King (preacher) was charged with “two counts of continuous sexual abuse of a child, a first-degree felony. King was charged and arrested Friday with indecency with a child, a third-degree felony.” “He reportedly sexually assaulted eight boys multiple times who were between 10 and 16 years old.” Odessa pastor charged with sexually assaulting multiple boys.
2018 – New Providence Baptist Church, Mt. Holly, NC. Jerry Friday (pastor) arrested for eight sexual offenses with children. Victim ages were 13-17. Local pastor accused of sexually assaulting children at church.
2018 – NewSpring Church (megachurch), Charleston, SC. Jacop Robert Lee Hazlett (pre-school volunteer) charged with at least seven counts criminal sexual conduct involving children. These charges allege incidents of oral sex inside a restroom with children as young as three. More charges for SC megachurch volunteer being sued for sexually assaulting 14 boys, cops say.
2018 – Fountain Of Blessings church, Tampa, FL. Richard Logsdon (associate pastor) was arrested on allegations he propositioned a 13-year old female online, asking for “nude photos, sex and other requests.” He was also on probation “after serving 13 years in prison” for a murder. Police: Former pastor propositioned 13-year-old for sex in online sting.
2018 – Living Waters Church, Estero, FL. Jerred Peacock (youth pastor) charged with having a “sexual relationship with a 17-year-old girl.” Former Estero youth pastor accused of sexually touching girl resigned before accusations, church says.
2018 – Langston Baptist Church, Conway, SC. Norman Clay Abernathy (youth minister) arrested for sexual assault. Former Conway youth minister accused of sexually assaulting teen girls.
2018 – Challenge Church, Brownwood, TX. Fernando Hernandez (pastor) arrested for sexual abuse on a continuing basis. Brownwood pastor arrested on charges of sexual abuse of child, indecency with child.
2018 – Faith Baptist Church, Milton, FL. David Alan Rowan (pastor) arrested for committing rape while attending a Tennessee religious conference. Pastor charged with raping two young girls in Murfreesboro arrested in Florida.
2018 – Five Rivers Church, Elkton, MD. Caleb Doyle Chase (pastor’s son) arrested for molestation of a boy (12) and soliciting a 13-year old female. Police: Pastor’s son tried to rape boy at church.
2018 – Iglesia Cristiana Impacto de Fe, Phoenix, AZ. Jose Vicente Morales (former pastor) convicted for sexual abuse on multiple occasions of underage girls. Phoenix pastor sentenced to 13 years in prison for molesting underage church members.
2018 – CrossPoint Community Church; also Acton Bowen Outreach Ministries; Gadsen, AL. Acton Bowen (pastor) arrested for sexual abuse of a minor in at least three separate cases. He pled guilty. 1) Sexual abuse by pastor lasted months, years, alleged victims claim. 2) Ex-Alabama youth evangelist pleads guilty to 28 sex crimes.
2018 – Church of Jesus Christ, South Haven, CT. Jeffrey Michael McGehee (youth leader) arrested for sexual assault of a minor and other charges. The victim said the pastor said he “used to be gay” and had been in rehab. Youth leader of South Haven church faces charges involving sexual misconduct with minor; pastor charged with failure to report incidents.
2018 – Firstborn Baptist Church, Benson, NC. Jonathan Young (Sunday School teacher) arrested for “molesting three girls. ‘It’s definitely a cult,’ says ex-Johnston church member where Sunday school teacher was arrested.
2018 – United Church of the Living God, Stockton, CA. Bruce Echavarre (pastor) arrested for molesting two girls aged 12 and 15 years. Stockton pastor arrested, faces child molestation charges.
2018 – Bethany Slavic Missionary Church, Santa Ana, CA. Viktor Miroshnichenko (pastor) arrested for sexual abuse of his granddaughter. Former Bethany Church Pastor Receives Two Life Sentences for Pedophilia.

2018 – Crossway Worship Center, Newport, TN. James “Ronnie” Messer (pastor) arrested for statutory rape of a teen female. Police: Newport pastor arrested for raping teenage girl.

2018 – St. Joseph Chaldean Catholic Church, Troy, MI. Hurmiz Ishak (sub-deacon) arrested for multiple sexual assaults of teen boy. Troy sub-deacon charged with sex assaults on teen boy.
2018 – Pine Tree Academy, run by Seventh-day Adventists, Freeport, MA. Derek Michael Boyce (math teacher at religious school) arrested on allegations of a sexual assault on a 15-year old female. Teacher at religious school in Freeport charged with sexual assault.
2018 – Greater First Baptist M.B. Church, Chicago, IL. Alfonzo Carter (minister) arrested for sexual assault of girl he was counseling. She was 16-years old. “He asked her to perform sex acts and requested nude photos.” Prosecutor: Minister hid in closet to avoid getting caught by grandmother of underage girl.
2018 – Harvest Bible Chapel, Aurora, IL. Paxton D. Singer (youth pastor) arrested for sexual exploitation of a child under the age of 17. Former Aurora Church Youth Pastor Charged With Sexual Exploitation Of a Child.

Thomas Faucher (pastor) arrested for ten counts of “sexual exploitation of a child” and one “possession of a controlled substance.
